Help! MS Financial Assistance for Those in Need

As you may remember, we have already shown some great ways to get financial assistance for your medication. But what if you find yourself in need- and it has nothing to do with your treatment? The NMSS might provide just the help you’ll need…

Looking for some financial help? You can reach out to your local MS Society chapter for what they (appropriately) call their Financial Assistance Program. Maybe you were just laid off and bills are piling up, or just need a hand purchasing a new wheelchair. An employee from your chapter will talk with you, discuss your needs and provide a short application to fill out. Expect they will ask for your current financial status, as well as some details pertaining to your long-term plans. Once approved, look forward to a little leg up.

Therefore, each chapter has a ceiling to what they can provide, and the frequency they can provide it (think: once a year, maximum). It’s a good resource to share and keep in the back of your mind, if something comes up. Additionally, talk with your chapter rep about other similar programs offered by your state and non-profit organizations. If you need a little more help, these are great places to look!

And for all those who find themselves fortunate enough not to need financial assistance, this is a good reminder of just another reason why fundraising can be so important.
