Faces Of MS: Athlete Debee Steel
Diagnosed with progressive MS when she was 14, Debee Steel gave up on her dreams of being a ballerina, yet still pushed herself physically.
After losing her ability to walk when she was 15, Steel took up wheelchair basketball, playing for Britain’s 2008 Paralympic basketball team in Beijing.
Then something interesting happened. For several months, Debee began to experience tingling in her legs. In January, the now-20-year-old was suddenly able to walk again. She now can run a half marathon.
While such a recovery is very rare, it is not unprecedented. There is a chance that Steel is just in a remission period, but for now, she is living her life to its fullest.
