bikeMS 09 Arizona Round Up

on the road

Wrapping up the official second year in the Florence, AZ area, the MS Society’s bikeMS rounded up as a big success. Bikers were looking at routes up to 100 miles the first day, and 50 the second… mixed in with a little camping, eating, and drinking (always a highlight for this volunteer).

I heard the streets saw over 800 riders, and I am still waiting for a fundraising total and fully expect it wasn’t too shabby.

Thinking about getting involved for next year? Maybe an upcoming ride in your state? It’s pretty easy: you pay a registration fee up front that helps cover all the costs in setting up the ride, food and amenities. You’ll probably see a suggested donation amount- but then you’ve got all year to talk to family/friends/ coworkers about chipping in for a good cause.

Sure, I could have geared up for the starter 35 mile course (training!) but opted for the alternative: volunteering. It’s just as easy to sign up online and lend a hand where you can. Do that and I promise you’ll find a meal or two in it for you (and great free beer).

Special thanks to the New Belgium people, coming out to tiny Florence, AZ just to help get those drinks to thirsty riders.

See you there next year!
